What We Will Need to Register Your Business for VAT
To successfully register your business for VAT with SARS, please prepare the following e-documents:
1. Business Registration Documents
Provide a copy of your company registration documents from CIPC, including registration number and certificate of incorporation.
2. Tax Reference Number
Include your company’s tax reference number issued by SARS, or if not yet registered, your personal tax number for sole proprietors.
3. Bank Account Details
Provide your business bank account information, including account number, branch code, and proof of account (bank statement or letter from the bank).
4. Proof of Business Address
Recent proof of the registered business address (not older than 3 months). Accepted documents include a utility bill, lease agreement, or municipal rates statement.
5. Owner / Director Details
Certified copies of IDs or passports for all directors or owners, including proof of residential address for each person.
6. Supporting Documents (If Applicable)
If your business is part of a partnership, trust, or legal entity, provide the registration documents and relevant agreements for that entity.
Important: All documents must be scanned clearly and uploaded in PDF or JPEG format. Certified copies must be signed and stamped by a Commissioner of Oaths, notary public, or a police officer authorised to certify documents in South Africa.
